Highlights From Digital London Fashion Week

As anyone who works in or follows the world of fashion will know, this time of year is traditionally when catwalks are populated with models showcasing the latest designs from the world’s best fashion houses and designers.

However, with the Covid-19 pandemic continuing, London Fashion Week didn’t take place as planned last month. In fact, the event went fully digital, providing an alternative way to observe the couture creations of some of the top names in fashion.

Fashion United picked out some of the highlights from the virtual events, drawing attention to the collection created by Bora Asku, which was showcased at Tate Britain and featured outfits inspired by mathematician and physicist Sophie Germain, using designs inspired by early 19th century fashion.

It also highlights a theme that came out of London Fashion Week, namely a trend for gender-neutral garments. This was continued through Burberry’s collection, the publication noted.

Another designer who never fails to make headlines is Vivienne Westwood and whose collection this year was made from 95 per cent deadstock and repurposed fabrics, minimising its environmental impact and putting the focus on the sustainability of the fashion industry.

Vogue, meanwhile, picked out some of the top trends that it believes will appear on our streets as we move into summer and we’re allowed a little more freedom in the UK. Among them are fabrics that feature prints of “landscape florals”, as well as a craft-heavy take on fashion.

In a year when many of us took to making garments or other accessories, it stands to reason that we’ll want to showcase our efforts to the world. If you’re making your own clothes, you might want to buy a sewing mannequin in the UK to allow you to work on more complex garments.
